Vegas

Updated: Aug 1

Initially, my son-in-law and I were slated to go to Vegas. Instead, my daughter. (Whitney, who is 48, luckily got to go), I had a voucher for 800.00. If I didn’t use it, I would lose the money, so the decision was for Vegas. I went through the Allegiant travel agents and got a package deal. It included the Luxor hotel for four nights, the flight up and back from Tri-Cities to Vegas, and a nice rental car.

The Allegiant plane to Vegas was without incident. I luckily got the TSA pre-check, and this allows you to expedite through security at the airport, not taking off your belt and shoes and expediting through the screening. The Luxor is a nice hotel (better known as the Pyramid), and if you ask for the upgraded room in the Gold Towers, you get a massive room with an upgraded bath, a separate shower, and a huge tub, and it is tranquil. We visited by way of what they call the tram; it’s like a monorail but goes to 3 other casinos. So, we visited Excalibur, where we often visited the food court and many shops. We went to the show in the Casino (Tournament of Kings), which is terrific for the kids and adults.

I believe this show was in the 60.00 range per person. You can go through VEGAS.com. There are tons of shows. The next day, we went to the aquarium at Mandalay Bay, the best in Vegas and fun for adults and kids.

Mandalay Bay is also beautiful to visit. The tram also goes back from Mandalay to Excalibur and Luxor. We also visited the King Tut exhibit at the Luxor, which is about 30.00 per person but is fabulous. We also went to the Blue Man show at Luxor, which we got for 90.00 a piece and is very loud, and if you don't like strobe lights, I wouldn't suggest it. It was o.k. for me, and I thought I enjoyed it. We also visited the Luxor's exhibit, King Tut. It's very eye-opening.

We kept busy going to these places in Vegas, as there were many other things to do.

The temperature was 105 degrees, about the same at night, on July 22 to 26.

My daughter and I did play one slot machine, and I lost 40.00, and she lost 50 in just a few minutes…lots of fun, but we are not into gambling.

My wife was not able to come due to a disability as we are staying at a retirement village and have assisted living for my wife.

My wife and I have been to Vegas many times, and you can spend ten vacations there and not see it all. We always went for the entertainment and things to see. You can very easily ignore the seedy side of Vegas.

Another place to visit is downtown; you can walk in the shade as there is a gigantic cover over Fremont Steet that is about two city blocks long, I'm just guessing. There are hundreds of little kiosks and ten small casinos, but it is a vast and vibrant place. There is a large hotel at one end of it, the Plaza. We've been to the Plaza a couple of times, years ago. It was dated but cheaper than most for food, and the slot machines you could play for a half hour for five dollars; that was long ago, but I don't know about now. The two pictures at the top of the page are the Tournament of Kings and the Blue Man Group.
